CM Punk’s Sensational WWE Return Steals the Show at WWE Survivor Series 2023
In a jaw-dropping turn of events, “The Best in the World,” CM Punk, made an unexpected return during the conclusion of the WWE Survivor Series 2023 premium live event on Saturday night at the AllState Arena in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Following Randy Orton’s surprise return, aiding Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, and Sami Zayn in their victory over The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre in the Men’s WarGames main event, the event seemed to be winding down. However, a seismic moment awaited the audience.
The iconic strains of Cult of Personality filled the arena as CM Punk, Chicago’s favorite son, made his triumphant entrance. Sporting a new haircut, Punk was met with an overwhelmingly loud and sustained roar from the ecstatic crowd. Kneeling down and performing his trademark “CLOBBERING TIME!” watch check, Punk embraced fans along the guardrails as the show reached its conclusion.
Fightful Select has reported that Punk and Paul “Triple H” Levesque engaged in a significant one-hour conversation earlier in the week, setting the stage for Punk’s surprise return in his hometown.
Remarkably, WWE staff, representatives, and the creative team were reportedly kept in the dark about Punk’s appearance. Punk remained concealed from the building throughout the night, only emerging minutes before making his way through Gorilla Position and onto the entrance area for the highly anticipated surprise return.
To maintain the element of surprise until the very last moment, the company allegedly cleared out a special area for Punk. According to the report, Triple H assumed control of calling the show in its final minutes, even prompting the WWE copyright logo to create the illusion that the event had concluded. Many involved in the production of the show were also kept unaware of Punk’s return.
